Buying A Greyhound
A greyhound is dog which is bred in essence intended for racing and for the sport of greyhounds racing, which involves having the animal hunt deer. In the British Isles, the greyhound was later on used to course designed for hare in a game that would be known as hare coursing. In recent times, the animal has become a general feature at animal shows and dog shows. Its popularity has increased as more and more people attain them as pets, since it exudes an aura of intellect and placidness Its accomplishment as a racing dog comes about because of its supine outline with extra powerful legs, a lean build, and deep chest. Due to its agility, the animal reaches speeds in excess of 60 kilometers per hour.

Greyhound males are usually slighter larger than the females. Greyhound coats have 30 known colors, and are usually very short haired. The color variation in the coats of the Greyhound is usually a result of different breeds, or crossbreeding of the dogs. Despite its sometimes menacing look, a greyhound is a gentle dog. During races, a muzzle is usually put on the animal to stop them nipping at rivals and causing injuries. This leads many people to think these animals are aggressive. Because of the greyhounds thin skin, it is eaier for these hounds to get injured then any other dogs. Also, because some breeds are more instinctive to hunting prey, the muzzle must be worn to avoid injuring itself or other dogs.

It is believed that greyhounds train for hours at a time, every day of the week in order to be able to compete in the races. This is a complete myth. These animals are bred primarily for racing hence their success in races. Young greyhounds on the other hand have to be trained by an experienced greyhounds trainer as the greyhound's hyperactivity could be destructive if not controlled.

Buying a greyhound need not be a chore. You can play around with a budget but caution is urged to not surpass it. Where the dog resides should also be taken into consideration. Usually the dogs race untill they are 5 years old.

In the acquisition of a greyhound for racing, the more expensive it is, the more likely it will bring back a larger prize purse, though expensiveness does not always guarantee the best returns.
If you have never purchased a greyhound before, make sure you deal with experienced dog handlers as they will be able to help you with better information.

Finding a trainer for your greyhound is important since he will be able to take you through the steps of getting one and might even have a few that are up for sale and also end up training the animal.
Male greyhounds are usually more expensive than their females. This is because as a racing hound, the female will at some point be in season thus end up taking an extended absence from the track.
